Planning a Holiday Wedding

The holidays are the most wonderful time of the year. Why not plan a wedding around the holidays as well? If you can get over the chaos and stress that often accompanies holidays and wedding planning, there are actually quite a few benefits of a holiday wedding. Winter weddings can be cozy and romantic and holiday colors are warm and rich. Not to mention, families often gather for the holidays anyway, which makes it easier for guests who will be coming in from out of town. The following are a few ideas to help you plan your upcoming holiday wedding:
Location – While winter wedding venues tend to be easier to book because of fewer winter weddings (most couples prefer a warm, sunny wedding), planning a holiday wedding can be a little tricky when it comes to booking a venue due to a plethora of holiday parties. If you have somewhere specific that you’re looking at for a wedding location, be sure to book the venue 6-12 months in advance.

Catering – Similar to booking a venue, if you’re planning on having your reception catered, it’s important to book the catering company well in advance. The holidays are a popular time for families, companies and other organizations to have holiday parties that are often catered by the same companies that do weddings during other times of the year. If you’re looking for a caterer in your area, try searching online to get a listing of companies near you. (i.e. If you live in Utah, try searching “Utah wedding catering” to see who in your area specializes in wedding catering.)
Invitations – Because the holidays are a busy time of year for everyone, it’s important to send out your invitations well in advance to give people ample of time to solidify their holiday plans. When choosing the date of your wedding, try to accommodate the schedules of the most important people you’d like to be there. After the holidays may be an easier time for people to make it, as the weeks leading up to the holidays tend to be chaotic.

Seasonal favorites – One of the great things about having a holiday wedding is that you can take advantage of some of the seasonal treats that are only available this time of year. For example, spiced cider, eggnog and hot chocolate, ham and turkey with cranberry sauce, romantic holiday songs, etc.
